Special Events

Additionally, we are pleased to offer special events including:

  • One of Southern Illinois’ premier Independence Day celebrations held each Fourth of July at Riverside Park. Of course, the day is capped by fireworks at dusk.
  • Community Night Out is held the first Tuesday of October at Longfellow Park. We’re pleased to host this annual event conducted by the City of Murphysboro. Each year there are displays and activities for the entire family at this free communitywide celebration!
  • The Riverside Park Wine and Arts Festival is held eachyear on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend.  Come out and enjoy a day of wine tasting from many regional wineries and check out local artists
  • The Big Muddy Brew Festival is held every October at Riverside Park and showcases local and regional breweries as well as many other craft brews.  Come out and enjoy an afternoon of music and your favorite brew.

Newsflash

It's official !! The Riverside Park Historic Bandshell is now on the National Register of Historical Places.  After months of putting together the proposal, we recieved conmfimation in June 2012.  Our next mission is to have the Riverside Park Grandstand, also known as Chep Kessel Field, added to the register.  Both structures were built in the late 1930's as part of the Work Project Administration (WPA).
