Special Events

Additionally, we are pleased to offer special events including:

  • One of Southern Illinois’ premier Independence Day celebrations held each Fourth of July at Riverside Park. Of course, the day is capped by fireworks at dusk.
  • National Night Out is held the first Tuesday of August at Longfellow Park. We’re pleased to host this annual event conducted by the City of Murphysboro. Each year there are displays and activities for the entire family at this free communitywide celebration!

Newsflash

We’re pleased to announce that the grandstand at Riverside Park’s Chep Kessel Field and the Bandshell also at Riverside Park are being considered for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Both structures were built in the late 1930s as part of the Work Projects Admistration.
